There are so many layers of watercolour on this page. I usually only work in two or three layers so this was a real exercise in patience for me as I waited for each saturated layer to (slowly) dry. The idea was to depict a figure floating inside a nebula. Is that even scientifically possible? No idea! I didn’t bother consulting my astronomy nerd husband because accuracy doesn’t bother me. The spacesuit would possibly set someone’s teeth on edge too as I cobbled it together from various references to spacesuits from different countries and different eras and then simplified the forms.
The suit looks good to me.
Thank you. I am positive it would never be a structurally sound design but it visually reads as a spacesuit which is all that I need.
Love the look, texture and feel of stardust filled space!! Great expression of amazement on the face – and the spacesuit is believable!! Great job!!!
Thank you. I am pleased to have pushed myself out of my comfort zone with facial expressions. There are metallic spatters in that background that I don’t think the camera picked up.
I love this one. Deep space has never looked more beautiful. There’s so much depth. I also like your astronaut. Very expressive face. I’m worried she’s running out of oxygen or something. Also I like her suit.
Thank you! I am so happy you picked up on the ambiguity of her expression because I was not sure whether to go for a look of wonder or a look of fear so I was steering for something in the middle, something akin to awe.
I think you hit it. She is not terrified, but she is not at ease. And I hope her oxygen tank is full.
